Peptide research, regulation, discovery. Every story links to the peptide it’s about.
RSSA research group screened peptides from the edible morel mushroom Morchella importuna, pulled out MIP-8, and showed it kept Parkinson's-model neurons alive by reactivating the PI3K-AKT-mTOR pathway. An AKT inhibitor abolished the rescue.
A 13-trial network meta-analysis of 12 MASLD drugs at fibrosis stages F1-F3 ranked survodutide 6 mg/week at SUCRA 92.0 percent, with a relative risk of 7.25 for NASH resolution without fibrosis worsening versus placebo (95% CI 2.07 to 25.36). Tirzepatide 15 mg landed second. Resmetirom, the first FDA-approved MASH drug, sat at the bottom of the active interventions.
F11R, the gene that codes for JAM-A and sits on the chromosome 1q lesion that just got pushed into the 2025 high-risk multiple myeloma cytogenetic update, has a structure-designed peptide that disrupts its homodimer. Candidate P4 reduced proliferation, induced senescence, and shrank CD138-positive plasmacytomas in a chick chorioallantoic membrane xenograft.
MHP1-AcN, a RANKL-derived peptide first developed for bone biology, binds LGR4 directly and displaces the IQGAP1 scaffold that R-spondin-3 needs to potentiate Wnt signaling. In Anticancer Research, daily intraperitoneal dosing shrank A549 lung adenocarcinoma xenografts in BALB/c nude mice and reduced LRP6 phosphorylation, beta-catenin accumulation, and migration in dish.
CIP-3, an AI-designed cyclic peptide reported May 30 in Advanced Science, binds CD28 at nanomolar affinity with no intrinsic agonist activity, suppresses T-cell activation in primary human cells, and matches a benchmark anti-CD28 biologic on cytokines in ulcerative colitis PBMCs. The kinetic profile is the part biologics do not have: occupancy tracks exposure rather than persisting for days.
PEG0, PEG3, PEG7, and PEG11 chelator-peptide linkers were scanned for an αvβ6 integrin theranostic. Affinity sat at 0.2 to 0.5 nM across all four; the PEG7 trimer led on tumor uptake at 24 h, ran 65 to 671 fold over other integrin subtypes, and held a 6-day SPECT retention curve in mice.
First urology-specific perioperative GLP-1 safety data, 2:1 propensity matched on 95 patients with BMI 35 and up. Wide CIs from a small N, but no signal above noise, and the authors land on individualized rather than reflexive discontinuation.
A Sungkyunkwan University team caged an alpha-helical membrane-disrupting peptide in PEG with a pH-sensitive linker. At blood pH the cage holds, at the slightly acidic pH 6.5 of tumor tissue it falls off, the peptide ruptures tumor-derived small extracellular vesicles, and PD-L1 stops shielding tumors from CD8+ T cells in mouse melanoma and colorectal models.
Across 34,956 EudraVigilance reports filed January 2022 to September 2024 for six GLP-1 receptor agonists, semaglutide carried about half tirzepatide's per-report rate of thyroid cancer events (reporting odds ratio 0.54, P less than 0.05). The sensitivity analysis stratified by indication wiped the signal out.
A research peptide PET tracer reflected CD147 tumor abundance more accurately than FDG across eleven patients on whole-body imaging, the developers wrote in Advanced Science on May 26. Three biomarkers (CD147, MCT1, Ki67) tracked the tracer at r = 0.80 to 0.86. The fourth, GLUT1, did not.
Researchers screened a library of double-stapled peptide candidates derived from the RSV F protein's heptad repeat and identified three (3/4i, 3/4m, 4/4g) that potently inhibit viral fusion. The same three peptides retained activity against viral escape mutants resistant to existing small-molecule fusion inhibitors. X-ray crystallography traced the enhanced potency to hydrophobic interactions between the N-terminal staple and the HR1 coiled-coil; intranasal delivery in RSV-infected Balb/c mice reached the lung at antiviral concentrations.
ApexGO couples a transformer variational autoencoder to a Bayesian optimization loop and proposes scaffold-local edits to peptide antimicrobials. Starting from 10 templates the team chemically synthesized 100 derivatives; 85 percent cleared the in-vitro hit bar, 72 percent improved on their parent against Gram-negative pathogens, and two molecules cleared Acinetobacter baumannii infection in mice at potencies matching or exceeding a last-resort antibiotic.
A Japanese group tested two NMUR2-selective agonist peptides, CPN-116 and CPN-219, in mice. Both reached more brain by the nasal route than by intraperitoneal injection. The more stable peptide reached more brain and suppressed weight gain further. Stability rank predicted brain rank predicted weight rank.
A 62-patient real-world cohort in Athens started type-2-diabetes adults with fatty liver on dulaglutide, dapagliflozin, or a DPP-4 inhibitor for 12 months. Dulaglutide moved left ventricular global longitudinal strain 22.6 percent. Dapagliflozin moved it 8.5 percent. The DPP-4 inhibitor moved it 5.9 percent. P=0.015.
A 45-patient prospective study split type-2-diabetes adults by prior dapagliflozin use, then started both groups on a GLP-1 receptor agonist. By week 12, the dapagliflozin-naive arm had lost SDNN, SDANN, RMSSD, pNN50, and high-frequency power. The dapagliflozin-on-board arm had not. Four indices stayed significantly separated after covariate adjustment.
