The blood test for heart failure drifts a third on its own

NT-proBNP, the standard blood test for tracking heart failure, swings by about a third within the same stable person across a month. A new Clinical Chemistry meta-analysis grades that noise floor for the first time and shows it widens the longer the gap between blood draws.

Octreotide muted the pancreas. An amino acid drip broke through.

Octreotide can shut the pancreas's hormone output down by more than 90 percent. In 15 healthy volunteers, an amino acid infusion pushed glucagon, insulin, and C-peptide back up anyway, offering a mechanism for the stubborn high glucagon seen in type 2 diabetes and fatty liver.

The peptide every migraine drug targets was lower in migraine blood

A 588-person registry measured plasma CGRP, the peptide at the center of modern migraine treatment, and found it lower in patients than in controls, not higher. The result challenges the case for a CGRP blood test without touching the drugs that block it.

A trickle of your own insulin tracked with fewer type 1 diabetes crises

In 5,630 adults with type 1 diabetes followed for a decade, those who still made a little of their own insulin had fewer acid crises, fewer severe lows, and less eye damage. The link held even at the same average blood sugar.

One daily PTH shot held for five years, a weekly rival posted its first

At ENDO 2026, Ascendis's once-daily palopegteriparatide posted 82 percent responders at five years while MBX's once-weekly canvuparatide hit 57 percent at one year. Two precision PTH peptides for a condition stuck on daily calcium pills for two decades.

A woman restarted semaglutide at the top dose and ruptured her esophagus

The first documented case of Boerhaave's syndrome tied to a GLP-1 drug followed a restart at the maximum 2.4 mg dose with no titration, a flag for the common pause-and-resume pattern.

A peptide carved from one protein regrew bone in aged animals

Using AlphaFold, researchers reconstructed two domains of the WNT7B protein into a small peptide that rebuilt bone in aged mice and pigs, through a pathway that sidesteps the cancer risk of full WNT signaling.

A stapled GLP-1 carried a protein-destroying drug into beta cells

Chemists turned the gut hormone behind Ozempic into a delivery address. A stapled GLP-1 analogue, clipped to a BRD4 degrader, wiped out the target protein only in cells carrying the GLP-1 receptor. The hormone was the van, not the medicine.

The scan you get can decide who qualifies for a radioactive peptide

In 115 patients with gut and pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors, a newer DOTATOC PET scan reclassified more than half of the patients ruled ineligible on the older octreotide scan as eligible for peptide receptor radionuclide therapy. The camera, not the disease, moved the gate.

A GLP-1 gene therapy regrew insulin cells, but mostly in young rats

A lentivirus carrying the GLP-1 gene regrew insulin-making beta cells in diabetic rats. The newborn pancreas rebuilt itself; the adult one only partly recovered, and digestive-enzyme cells stayed out of it entirely.

A virtual screen of 59,319 peptides found one that grips KRAS G12V

The approved KRAS drugs were built for the G12C mutation. A computational screen turned up a peptide that binds G12V, the version that drives many colorectal tumors, and a knockdown test argues the effect runs through the target.

Oral semaglutide held up outside the trials, across 59 studies

A meta-analysis of 59 real-world studies and 24,859 patients found the pill form of semaglutide lowered blood sugar and weight by about as much as the registration trials promised. The catch: the studies disagreed enormously, so the direction is solid but the exact size is soft.

A peptide from amphibian skin eased vascular aging in mice

AL-VI10, the first amphibian-derived peptide shown to act on blood-vessel aging, reversed senescence signs in old mice and human endothelial cells. Block one enzyme, SIRT1, and the benefit faded, which turns a vague antioxidant story into a specific, testable pathway.

GLP-1 was linked to 63 percent fewer cirrhosis deaths. The number is too good.

A retrospective database study tied GLP-1 drugs to a 63 percent lower death rate in cirrhosis patients, with tight confidence intervals. The size of the mortality signal, and a complications result at war with it, are the reasons to distrust it rather than headline it.
